Steamy Fun at Thermal Valley

Situated within Xinbeitou in the northern Beitou district of Taipei, Thermal Valley is the largest hot spring lake in the area.

Thermal Valley Xinbeitou

The valley was formed from a volcanic eruption hundreds of years ago and covers an area of 3,500 sq meters. The hot spring water comes from deep inside the volcano underground and rises to mix with the surface water to form the hot spring.

The rising steam gives off a heavy sulphuric smell as it condenses with the air. If you come during the winter months, the difference in temperatures will cause the steam to become much more visible.

Access to the lake isn’t possible, and it’s definitely not advised to climb over the fence, as water temperatures can range from 60°c to almost 100°c.

There’s a gift shop and toilets just before you enter the site, and a small temple that offers a good vantage point for views of the lake.

Thermal Valley is a must visit attraction if you’re in the Xinbeitou area.
