Ride the Sky Bike at the National Taiwan Science Education Center

One of three attractions all located a short walk from each other – and great for kids, the National Taiwan Science Education Center (NTSEC) is a huge building whose primary objective is to help educate children in science.

Walking into the impressive main lobby area, you’ll immediately appreciate the vastness of this 10 storey building.

Floors 3 to 9 are where most of the fun games and displays are. Many areas of science are covered here, including Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Earth sciences. It costs NT$100 to enter (see full prices below) and has dozens of fully interactive games and rides.

All the rides are focused on teaching kids about science, whether it’s gyroscopic rotation or pivots and pulleys, the sound of screaming and laughing kids having oodles of fun is almost deafening.

One of the best (and scariest) rides at the National Taiwan Science Education Center is the Sky Bike. Found on the forth floor, you can cycle the length of the building on a wire. Even with the added protection of a harness and safety net, it was far too unnerving for me to even consider having a go.

The basement also has a number of rooms to explore, including a science lab and a learning playground.

There are also three theatres located in the basement:

  • 3D Theater
  • Virtual Reality Theater
  • Earthquake Theatre

The 3D Theatre will shows children’s animations, while the VR Theatre has hydraulic seating and includes a virtual reality water-slide ride. The Earthquake Theatre simulates an earthquake up to 7.3 on the Richter scale.

Prices for all these are found below. For times and to find out what is currently showing, click here.

The center also has a large dinosaur themed restaurant in the basement.

The National Taiwan Science Education Center is another fantastic place to take kids to in Taipei. All the children here seemed to be having a great time and although not everything is in English, there’s still plenty of fun to be had.
