Billed as Taipei’s only real pub, On Tap is the most authentic British style bar in Taipei, serving draft lagers and ales, plus a variety of pub food.
The walls are plastered with British memorabilia, with Union Flags, London buses and numerous icons from British pop and film culture. It’s probably the closest you’ll come to feeling like your drinking in an English pub in Taipei.
Consisting of two levels, the ground level includes plenty of outdoor seating (only until 22:00 though), while the basement has a free pool table, darts and other games such as Jenga.
If you’re after live sport, On Tap is the best place to come in Taipei.
With no less than 14 screens, 3 of them projectors, they have the ability to show multiple sporting events simultaneously. Although, much like other venues, they will only turn the sound up for the largest events such as the Football World Cup or the Wimbledon final.
The beer selection at On Tap is very good, and includes a few very British Badger Ales and some Belgian lagers, and they have some decent tap ales, including Taiwan’s own Redpoint. The drinks menu is extensive to say the least, with bottled and canned beers/ciders as well as the drafts ones, wines, whiskeys, cocktails, shots, bombs and soft drinks.
There is a wide variety of pub food to choose from, and it’s generally of a good standard. Almost everything you’ll find in a pub in Britain can be ordered from On Tap’s extensive menu. Burgers, pies, salads, pasta and of course a couple of English favourites – Fish ‘n’ Chips & Bangers ‘n’ Mash!
On most days there’s a great offer on a selection of the food (see Traveller’s Tips below).
There’s usually a great atmosphere at On Tap, especially over the weekend, where locals, expats and holiday makers will all come to enjoy a very British experience.
