Fine Crafts and Gifts at The Red House

Located right next to the Ximending Shopping district, The Red House is a striking building that contains numerous gift shops, a tea shop and music venue.

Red House Ximending

Constructed in 1908 by the Japanese, it’s name comes from the bricks used to build it, and it’s Western design and octagonal shape is certainly quite unique in Taipei.

It’s the most well preserved class III building in Taiwan and although it was originally built as a public market hall, it’s since been used as a cinema and theatre before being opened to the public to look around.

If you like quirky and unique gifts, this is one of the best places in Taipei to visit.

The Creative Boutique features two floors of stalls selling all manor of gifts, such as flattened glass bottles, temporary tattoos, jewellery, fragrances and clothes. All the gifts found here are of an exceptional standard.

Also located within the structure is a nice tea house and the Riverside Live House, a music venue that plays mainly Taiwanese music styles.

There’s usually a market outside during the weekend, with over 20 tents selling similar items to those found inside.

Directly behind the building is a large outdoor drinking area that opens in the evening and is very popular with the LGBT community.
