Wander the Winding Alleys of Gongguan

Perfect For

  • Bargain hunters
  • Restaurants and food stalls
  • Live music
  • Kids

Located on the green line in the Southern part of Taipei, Gongguan is situated close to Taiwan’s largest university – NTU, and as such has the largest population of students in Taipei.

Due to this, Gongguan benefits from having some of the cheapest shops and restaurants found in Taipei. There are many clothes shops, with a huge number of sportswear shops selling trainers at far cheaper prices found in shopping malls.

For kids, there are plenty of amusement arcades, and a water park called Road Castle with water slides and pools.

There are also a few music venues, The Wall Live House being the best of these, with live international underground acts of high calibre.

The James Joyce Irish Pub also usually has bands playing over the weekend, or you could just go for one of the best pints of Guinness in Taipei.

The streets and winding alleys at Gongguan make it easy to get lost, especially at night when Gongguan Night Market brings in many more visitors.

Many of the night market stalls are open during the day. If you visit the above post, there are three really great stands I would urge you to visit.

Alternatively, there are a couple of small restaurants to grab some quick meals. Timeout sells some great danish style hot dogs, while Yu Poke has some fresh and tasty Hawaiian poke dishes.

If the hustle and bustle of the streets becomes too much, you have the option of escaping to either the huge NTU campus or the Taipei Water Park, which features a museum and nice areas to walk, and leads to Treasure Hill Artists’ Village.
